Class Descriptions

Level 1 Gentle

Gentle classes are great for everyone! And a perfect introduction to yoga. Included are foundational poses, modifications, use of props, emphasis on breath, and some yogic philosophy. The goal is to move away from the busy, fast pace of our lives into a practice that is slow paced, mindful and conscious, and receive the abundant benefits of yoga.

Level 1

Perfect for students who are new to the practice of yoga, these classes offer flowing movement at a gentle pace with detailed instruction and attention to principles of breathing and posture.

Level 1-2

These classes build greater strength, flexibility, and stamina, while still providing thorough instruction. Ideal for transitioning from beginning to intermediate level of practice, students will be exposed to stronger flow sequences and begin learning more advanced poses.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a deeply nourishing Taoist practice in which poses are held for 2-5 minutes with muscles relaxed. Yin Yoga supports lengthening, strengthening and rehabilitating connective tissue; it stimulates the movement of Chi through the meridian lines; creates a feeling of lightness and ease; and enhances joint flexibility. This practice includes bending forward, backward and twisting; opening the hips, knees, ankles, and rejuvenates the entire spine. Each class weaves in some Taoist philosophy. All levels welcome.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga uses props to relieve muscles and bones of their roles of support and action. The nervous system will send and receive fewer messages, triggering the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for balancing the body. By stimulating this system we can lower heart rate and blood pressure. The deep relaxation response elicited by restorative yoga also benefits internal organs and helps stimulate the immune and endocrine systems in healthy ways. When we experience stress or feel overwhelmed, it is the parasympathetic nervous system that restores balance. In Restorative yoga layers of tension melt away. This is conscious relaxation: learning to identify how and where we hold tension and release it. The class is deeply nurturing and suitable for all ages.

Level 2

Dynamic and rigorous vinyasa flow classes, linking one pose to the next continuously through breath and movement. With a cardiovascular element, these classes offer a challenge to intermediate to advanced students who have an understanding of the basics and are ready to deepen their practice. Students will be challenged with poses requiring greater strength, flexibility, stamina and focus.

Level 2 Shakti Yoga

Shakti Yoga is a meditative vinyasa flow. This unique practice infuses the physical intensity of a level 2 class with the meditative practices of Mantra and Pranayama, creating a perfect balance of working the body while calming the mind. A deep internal awareness is created through the weaving of Classical Sun Salutes, vinyasa flows, inversions, backbends, arm balances, hip openers and other classical poses. Complete with a deep guided relaxation, this powerful practice created by Master Yogi Jnana Nanda Bharati is based on the ancient Vedic, Tantric and Yogic traditions and offers the experience of the transformative aspects of an authentic yoga practice.
