Class Descriptions

Yoga Shakti offers a wide range of classes so students can experience all the facets of a balanced yoga practice. We believe in preserving the classical and authentic experience of yoga. While our classes range in physical intensity from gentle to advanced, each and every class fosters a connection to the breath, body and spirit.

Regardless of which class you choose, you will experience our unique Yoga Shakti flavor and most importantly, the essence of yoga. We train and hand-pick our teachers to deliver a true vinyasa flow, which means the breath and movement are systematically linked together. Our intelligent and balanced sequencing creates a natural connection to the body, and harmony between the body and breath. A well-sequenced vinyasa class has the effect of balancing the nervous system and calming the mind, while strengthening the muscles, supporting the joints and subtly harmonizing our entire being.

All our classes follow the principle of building heat from the inside out which is the best way to increase flexibility and deepen our practice. While our rooms are comfortable, we do not create a heated environment. Our classes systematically build internal heat and use harmonious sequencing to build strength, flexibility and stamina, without overheating or overdrying the muscles and joints. This allows for a much deeper experience of the poses in a way that is safe and supportive to the body.

We invite you to explore all the different Yoga Shakti classes to develop a strong body and balanced mind, thus cultivating your Atma Shakti (inner strength and radiance).

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a very relaxing and rejuvenating practice. It uses props to support the body, thus relieving the muscles and bones of this work so that poses can be comfortably held for extended periods of time. Through the use of props, the student can completely let go and simply experience the flow of the breath. Restorative yoga naturally activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for balancing the body. When we experience stress or feel overwhelmed, it is the parasympathetic nervous system that restores balance; the effect is to lower the heart rate and blood pressure, tone internal organs, and stimulate the immune and endocrine systems in healthy ways. In restorative yoga, layers of tension melt away. This is conscious relaxation; we learn to identify where we hold tension and how to release it. The class is deeply nurturing and suitable for all ages and abilities. CLICK HERE TO VIEW SCHEDULE…

Gentle Yoga

Gentle yoga classes are a perfect introduction to yoga and great for students who want minimal intensity in the practice. A slow, gentle pace allows time to learn the foundational poses and to understand modifications, moving with breath, and how to use props to support the body. With an emphasis on linking movement with slow, rhythmic breath, we can better understand our own bodies and move away from the busy, fast pace of our lives and into a space that is quiet, mindful and conscious. This practice is the perfect way to de-stress and rejuvenate the body while still building basic strength and flexibility in a nurturing and supportive environment. CLICK HERE TO VIEW SCHEDULE…

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a deeply nourishing Taoist practice in which poses are held for 2 to 5 minutes with the muscles supported and relaxed. Generally a cooler practice, it does not involve a flow but rather focuses on longer holds within each pose. Yin Yoga supports lengthening, strengthening and rehabilitating connective tissue. It stimulates the movement of Chi, or Prana (life force) through the meridian lines, creating a feeling of lightness and ease. The practice enhances muscle and joint flexibility and includes forward, backward and twisting motions; it opens the hips, knees, ankles, and rejuvenates the entire spine. All levels welcome.
